Dear Parents,
What a joy it’s been meeting all of your children this past week! The students and I spent some time getting to know each other and our classroom procedures, rules, and routines. We also took a series of beginning of the year assessments in math, spelling, and writing. These tools will be used to find where each student’s skills are and how to plan for instruction.
Homework will begin this week for the children. Each week in my update, I will send home a cover sheet with homework for the week as well as upcoming announcements, assessments, and projects. Here is what to expect:
• Math practice
• Spelling practice
• Vocabulary application
• Reading: Five nights per week, I expect the children to read for 20 minutes and record this on the Reading 500 Book Challenge sheet. I ask that this sheet be kept in the Black/Pink folder so I may check that students are keeping up with it throughout the week.
I’m very excited to work with your child. Anytime that you need to contact me, please send me an e-mail or write a note. Thank you for your support and have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Merry Ostheimer
